Veteran and First Responder Care

Compassionate, individualized, trauma-informed care to support those who supported us.

At Presence Therapy, we recognize that military service can bring unique experiences, challenges, and transitions. Whether you are adjusting to civilian life, navigating relationships, managing stress, or processing taxing memories, you deserve a space where you feel heard and respected.

How Therapy Can Help

Our clinicians provide a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where veterans and first responders can process their experiences and develop tools to support their emotional well-being. Therapy may help with:

  • Life Transitions: We know that leaving time in the service or as a first responder can be a jarring transition. We’re here to help navigate that adjustment.
  • Trauma and PTSD: The experiences that come from time in service or as a first responder can lead to lasting effects in your civilian life. Our clinicians approach every session with a trauma-informed lens to help you better understand yourself and the world around you.
  • Stress and Anxiety: Building coping skills to manage daily stress, worry, and emotional overwhelm can be a lot on your own. We are here to lend a helping hand.
  • Depression and Emotional Well-Being: Life can get overwhelming fast and sometimes unexpectedly. Our goal is to provide a non-judgemental space for you to process these feelings.
  • Relationship and Family: We understand that time in the service or as a first responder can be challenging on relationships and family members. We want to help you build the tools to be able to be there for the ones you love while still showing yourself love and support.
  • Grief and Loss: Processing personal losses and adjusting to life changes can be overpowering, we’re here to make it more manageable.

We know we can never fully understand the experiences you’ve lived through, but we hope to listen, honor your story, and walk alongside you as you find your way forward.

Play Therapy

Helping children express themselves, build confidence, and grow through play.

Children do not always have the words to explain what they are feeling or experiencing. Play therapy provides a developmentally appropriate way for children to express emotions, explore challenges, and develop health coping skills in a safe and supportive environment.

How Play Therapy Can Help

Play therapy may support children experiencing:

  • Anxiety and Worries: Learning to manage fears, uncertainty, and overwhelming emotions can make day to day life easier for the whole family
  • Behavioral Challenges: Understanding emotions and developing healthier ways to express needs and frustrations help children feel more relief
  • Life Transitions: Adjusting to divorce, family changes, moving, or other significant life events can be difficult when emotions are hard to communicate
  • Trauma and Difficult Experiences: Processing experiences in a safe, age-appropriate way helps the whole family better communicate
  • Social and Emotional Development: Building communication skills, self-esteem, emotional regulation, and healthy relationships is important at any age
  • Grief and Loss: Exploring feelings related to loss and change is easier when there is a safe space to share

Play therapy offers children an opportunity to communicate in ways that feel natural to them. Depending on the child’s needs and treatment goals, caregivers may also be involved in the therapeutic process to help reinforce progress and support emotional growth at home. Every child is unique, and therapy is tailored to their developmental level, strengths, and individual needs. Our goal is to help children feel safe, understood, and supported as they navigate life’s challenges.

Disability

Individualized, affirming support that honors every person’s strengths and experiences.

At Presence Therapy, we believe everyone deserves access to compassionate mental health care in an environment where they feel valued, respected, and understood. Living with a disability can involve unique experiences and challenges, and each person’s needs, goals, and strengths are different. Our approach centers on the individual, recognizing that disability is only one part of a person’s identity.

How Therapy Can Help

Therapy may support individuals with disabilities as they navigate:

  • Emotional Well-Being: Managing anxiety, depression, stress, and other emotional challenges
  • Life Transitions and Adjustment: Navigating changes in independence, daily routines, relationships, or personal circumstances
  • Self-Esteem and Identity: Building self-acceptance, confidence, and a stronger sense of self
  • Relationships and Social Connections: Developing communication skills, strengthening relationships, and navigating social challenges
  • Coping Skills and Emotional Regulation: Developing strategies to manage difficult emotions and everyday stressors
  • Caregiver and Family Dynamics: Exploring relationship challenges, communication, and the emotional impact of caregiving when relevant to treatment goals

We recognize that each individual has different abilities, communication preferences, support needs, and personal goals. Our goal is to create a welcoming therapeutic environment that respects each person’s autonomy, promotes self-advocacy, and supports their overall well-being. We work collaboratively with clients to identify meaningful goals and develop an approach to therapy that reflects their individual needs and preferences.
